History: First Presbyterian Church was founded in 1855, and its first pastor, William Plummer Jacobs, came in 1860. Jacobs went on to establish Thornwell Home and Presbyterian College. The original church ediface burned in 1929; the congregation persevered through the depression, rebuilding a church home in the present stone Gothic-style structure.
