March 2007 Chairman's Message
by Dr. Bud Marchant, Chairman, Chamber Board of DirectorsLaurens County, Our Home
Sometimes I think we forget that Laurens County is a great place for people to call home.
For young people who were raised here, Laurens County may well be the place to leave. It’s where Mom and Dad live and a great place to store stuff. But they want to leave for college, for a first job and maybe forever. We should ask them to reconsider Laurens County and think of it as a home port – a place to return to after voyaging the wide seas of college and commerce (if you don’t mind the nautical theme).
We should also ask college students, newcomers, and people who love visiting here to consider Laurens County as a place to establish themselves, build a career or a company, and live their lives. People should take the time to talk to their kids and let them know that when they are ready to come back to this community that the community is ready and able to greet them with open arms. It is a great conversation for all of us to have with our children, friend’s children, and old and new friends who’ve moved away.
There’s room and opportunity here. Come on home.
