Laurens County, A Great Place to Retire

I recently read that having ten (10) well-to-do retirement age couples move to town has the same economic impact on the community as the relocation of a small manufacturing facility. Think about it! These individuals buy property, cars, and groceries, visit doctors and lawyers, and participate in sports and cultural activities.

What does this have to do with Laurens County, you ask? Well maybe, just maybe, Laurens could become a retirement destination. It is not a secret to us what a great place Laurens County is! Our assets includes quaint bustling downtowns, great recreational facilities that include two top notch YMCAs, new tennis counts, and plenty of golf. Lake Greenwood provides endless opportunity for boating and fishing activities. Our health care facilities are first rate and are continually looking for ways to expand and increase customer service. The climate and location couldn’t be better. We have just enough winter to make us appreciate our long springs, summers, and falls. We are perfectly located between the coast and the mountains. One of the greatest treasures we have is Presbyterian College. I continue to be amazed by the scope and variety of events offered on the Presbyterian College campus.

Research shows that retirement age couples looking to relocate consider location, climate, recreational activities, and access to cultural events in choosing their new home. We have it all.

Your chamber will be exploring ways to get the word out about Laurens County. If you have ideas or would like to help, call the chamber and get involved in our retirement/ tourism efforts.
