Laurens County Chamber

December 2007 Chairman's Message

by Dr. Bud Marchant, Chairman, Chamber Board of Directors

It’s hard to believe that we are almost at the end of 2007. It has been an honor and privilege to have served as your chairman this year. With the Chamber nearing its 30 anniversary and its 500th member, the future looks bright. The Chamber, through its members and committed board of directors, has continued to make improvements in the economic and business climate of Laurens County. The Chamber's dedicated staff has worked countless hours to ensure that the business interest of the membership is well represented at the local, county, state and federal level. The events of the Chamber, including the annual banquet, the golf tournament, ribbon cuttings and Business After Hours, have reached a new degree of professionalism and sophistication bringing unprecedented publicity and recognition to the Chamber and its mission to improve the economy of Laurens County.

It is hard to describe the dedication of the Chamber's board of directors. They have devoted many, many hours to the work of the Chamber. Together, they and the staff have restructured and reinvigorated the Chamber’s standing committees. These committees have become the life blood of the Chamber involving over 150 Chamber member volunteers. These committees have increased the effectiveness of the Chamber and increased the communication between the general membership and the board. The members of the board have also devoted their time and talents to attending Chamber functions and reviewing the Chamber's budget. I cannot thank them enough for their work.

I also wish to thank the Chamber Staff. Rob, Randall and Marlene are three of the best Chamber professionals in the state. The recent award the Chamber received in California is proof and recognition of their hard work and dedication. I continue to be amazed what these three individuals are able to accomplish. They, and you as chamber members, should be justifiably proud.

Again, let me say what an honor and privilege it has been to serve as chairman this year. The future of the Chamber and Laurens County is bright. As long as we continue to pull together for the common goal of increasing economic prosperity, we cannot fail.

While my term as Chairman of the board is over, I look forward to many more years of participating in the wonderful events of our Chamber. The best is yet to come!

May you have a safe and joyous holiday season surrounded by your family and friends.

Bud
