Holmes Photography
Holmes Photography in Laurens has been named the Small Business of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2008 by the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented during the Chamber’s annual Small Business Celebration on May 22.

Suellen Holmes began her career in photography at age 40 after an 18 year career in long term care. It was her lifelong dream. She originally majored in art in college before switching to business. She holds a degree from Piedmont Technical College as well as two degrees from the University of South Carolina.

After working two years part-time in photography, he clientele grew sufficiently enough for her to make her dream a full time career. Now in business for nearly eight years, she recently moved into her fourth location. Each move has been to a larger space as her business has grown. She is now located in the former Men’s Shop building on the historic Court House Square in downtown Laurens.

Suellen serves as a director on the board of the Professional Photographers of South Carolina. She also holds membership in the Professional Photographers of America and the Southeastern Photographers Association. Based on her competition scores, she was recognized as one of the Top 10 Professional Photographers in South Carolina in 2007.

She and her family are members of the First Baptist Church of Laurens. She also serves on the board of directors for Main Street Laurens and organized and leads a community-wide photography club for photography enthusiasts in Laurens County.

Suellen says, "Everyday is an adventure for me and is always full of new challenges and lots of hard work. The biggest gift I glean from my business is the honor and privilege of documenting the most special and intimate moments and events in my client's lives. I have had the rare joy of photographing several couples' weddings, then being there to document the births of their children. I am so grateful for being given the opportunity to have such a rewarding job. I have so many wonderful customers who have stood by me from the very first shutter snap and I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve them."

"We are happy to recognize Holmes Photography as the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Quarter," said Rob Clapper, president and CEO of the Chamber.
