Miss Laurens County Teen takes the lead against Underage Drinking

Newly crowned Miss Laurens County Teen, Ali Rogers, has hit the ground running in Laurens County to promote her platform.

Rogers, whose platform is "Teens Against Underage Drinking," has met with the Boards of School Districts 55 & 56, the Laurens County Council and Sheriff Ricky Chastain to discuss her issues and the need for a united front to reduce underage drinking here in Laurens County.

During her presentations to these bodies of local government she pointed out the problems Laurens County and South Carolina faces with the number of students who experiment with alcohol and the dangers that are surrounded by them doing so.

"Even though this is not a popular topic for someone my age to be addressing," Rogers said, "It is important to me. I don’t want to see my friends destroyed by alcohol."

After Miss Laurens County Teen’s presentation to the County Council, it was voted on and agreed to pass a resolution in support of South Carolina’s Underage Drinking Laws. Sheriff Chastain and members of Districts 55 & 56 School Boards, whom Rogers had already addressed prior to Tuesday’s meeting, were on hand to officially sign and acknowledge their support of the resolution.

"I think it is wonderful that we can come together like this and show that we are serious about reducing underage drinking in Laurens County," Rogers said.

"Ali is an amazing teen," said Sheriff Chastain. "It’s wonderful to have our young people step up and make a difference here in Laurens County. They will be our future leaders."

Ali Rogers is a junior at Laurens High School and also holds the title of Miss LDHS.
