Presbyterian College Board of Trustees approve faculty promotions



The Presbyterian College Board of Trustees approved four faculty promotions during its winter meeting in February. Four promotions were granted in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Judith Alicia Askew was granted tenure and promoted to the rank of associate professor of psychology. A graduate of PC, she earned her master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. She joined the PC faculty in 2003.

Dr. C. Clinton Harshaw was promoted to the rank of professor of mathematics. A graduate of Newberry College, he earned his master’s degree from Clemson University and his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He joined the PC faculty in 2004.

Dr. Clinia M. Saffi was granted tenure and promoted to the rank of associate professor of modern foreign languages. A graduate of California State University – San Bernardino, she earned her Ph.D. from the University of Miami. She joined the PC faculty in 2006.

Dr. Jonathan C. Smith was promoted to the rank of professor of political science. A graduate of Francis Marion University, he earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He joined the PC faculty in 1997.

Four promotions also were granted in the School of Pharmacy.

Associate dean Dr. Cliff Fuhrman was granted tenure at the rank of professor. He graduated from USC in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. He earned his Ph.D. in basic pharmaceutical sciences-pharmaceutics from USC’s College of Pharmacy.

Assistant dean for professional and student affairs Dr. Laura Fox was granted tenure at the rank of associate professor. A summa cum laude graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, Fox earned her Ph.D. in pharmaceutics from the University of Georgia.

Chair of pharmacy and administrative sciences Dr. Scott Asbill was granted tenure at the rank of professor. A cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina, he earned his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy.

Chair of pharmacy practice Dr. Tommy Johnson was granted tenure at the rank of professor. He earned his doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of South Carolina.

In addition, trustees voted to appoint professor of music Dr. Porter Stokes to the Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Barksdale Sr. Chair of Music.

Presbyterian College is a liberal arts institution in Clinton, S.C., that offers a whole-person education to inquisitive students interested in lives that balance challenging academics, social engagement, and service.
