It’s clear that Laurens County South Carolina has come a long way from its roots in the textile industry. In 1895 the Laurens Cotton Mill opened...and a hundred years later in 1995 the county’s economy had shirt from mills to advanced metalworking, from cotton fibers to plastic production.
Over the years Laurens County has proven itself to be rich in resources, and its economy has experienced tremendous growth. I-26 and I-385 run through the county, and its proximity to the I-85 "Boom Belt" puts it on the map between two of the largest cities in the Southeast--Charlotte and Atlanta.
BMW's manufacturing facility is also located nearby in Greer, and the company encourages its suppliers to move closer to the factory. Many of those companies who have relocated to South Carolina have chosen to call Laurens County home.
More recently the development of Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research (ICAR), a stone's throw away in Greenville, puts industry in Laurens is on the fast track for cutting edge research.
Laurens County's legacy of hard work has created a workforce with an outstanding work ethic, making this a prime setting for commerce and manufacturing.
