American Titanium Works Recognized as One of 15 National Winners of Trade & Industry Development Magazine’s 2009 CiCi Awards

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Commerce recently announced that Trade & Industry Development magazine, the leading magazine dedicated to site selection, named American Titanium Works one of 15 national winners of its 2009 Corporate Investment Awards. The Corporate Investment & Community Impact (CiCi) awards program recognizes a select number of corporations and investments from a wide range of applicants throughout the country. The award focuses on both company investments and the economic developers responsible for securing the investment.

"This year the CiCi Awards are especially important as they recognize that despite certain challenges, many good things are still happening across the United States," said Scott D. Swoger, publisher of Trade & Industry Development magazine and president of Due North Consulting Inc. "And, true to the magazine’s mission, we continue to ‘define corporate strategies for growth."

According to the magazine’s editors, approximately 1,000 projects throughout the country were entered. The only stipulation from each nomination was that the project announcement had to be finalized in the previous year. American Titanium Works was one of only 15 winners of the 2009 Corporate Investment CiCi Awards.

"It’s great to see Marvin Moss and Laurens County recognized with such a prestigious award. Marvin has been a great ambassador for Laurens County and it is good to see this recognition coming his way. Recruiting efforts to Laurens County’s were phenomenal in 2008 with American Titanium Works bringing the largest investment in the County’s history and this year is already off to a great start for Laurens County," said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce.

In 2008, the South Carolina Department of Commerce recruitment efforts resulted in companies committing to create 18,993 new jobs and invest $4.17 billion in capital investment. American Titanium Works was among the largest commitments from companies in 2008 to invest in South Carolina. American Titanium Works announced 320 new jobs and a $422 million investment in Laurens County.

Two South Carolina companies were recognized among 15 national award winners. In addition to American Titanium Works, BMW’s $750 million expansion and commitment to create 500 new jobs was also named as a 2009 CiCi Award Winner.
