Meet our Ambassadors: Becca Dobbins
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Becca Dobbins, and I’m a native of Greenwood, South Carolina, where I was born and raised. I’ve been happily married to my incredible husband, Matthew, for almost four years. We share a deep love for rescuing animals and currently have quite the furry (and scaly!) family – six dogs, 2 cats, and a bearded dragon. When we’re not busy caring for our pets, we enjoy traveling, watching scary movies, and simply spending quiet, quality time together at home.
Where do you work, and what’s your role? What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I work at Thornwell as the Community Engagement Coordinator. In my role, I have the incredible opportunity to connect with local partners, organize events, and support initiatives that make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families. What I enjoy most about what I do is the chance to give back to the community and help others. Being part of something bigger than myself and seeing the positive difference we can make every day is truly rewarding.
How long have you been an Ambassador, and what’s a personal or professional “win” you’ve experienced through your Chamber involvement?
I’ve been an ambassador for almost a year now, and it’s been such a valuable experience. Being involved with the Chamber has helped me learn more about the Laurens County community and connect with so many incredible local leaders and organizations. A personal win for me has been gaining a deeper understanding of the resources and services available in our area – and being able to share that information with others to help them get connected and supported.
What’s one local business or hidden gem in Laurens County you think more people should discover?
One local gem I think more people should discover is Lush Acres Farm and Market. It’s a beautiful spot that showcase the best of what Laurens County has to offer - from fresh, locally grown produce to family-friendly events and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping by for seasonal goods or enjoying one of the community events, Lush Acres is a place that brings people together and highlights the value of supporting locals. If you could instantly learn a new skill or hobby, what would it be and why?
If I could instantly learn a new skill, it would be sign language. I’ve always admired the beauty and importance of nonverbal communication, and being able to connect with the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community in a meaningful way would be incredibly rewarding. I believe that learning sign language not only breaks down communication barriers but also promotes inclusivity and understanding.
