Ambassador Spotlight: Lacresha Dowdy

Ambassador Spotlight - Lacresha Dowdy

Tell us about yourself.

I am Lacresha Dowdy. I am a Clinton High School graduate.  I have an associates from Piedmont Technical College in Criminal Justice.  I have double Bachelor's degree from Claflin University in Criminal Justice Administration and Sociology.  I have an amazing 8 year old son that is constantly making me become even more opened minded about the many things in life. In my free time, I am an artist.  I have some of my artwork for sale at Aspen and Figs in downtown Clinton, and I am a freelance columnist for the Clinton Chronicle. I don't like sitting still for too, so learning new things is always on my list of things to do. If I had to sum myself up in two words, it would be "organized chaos" because I am just as much up as I am down most days.

Where do you work and what is your title? What do you like about your job?

Currently, I am the Clerk of Court and the Community Relations Specialist for the City of Clinton. I love that I am able to utilize both of my degrees within the town that I grew up in. Working with the citizens on the legal side really gives me an inside look on the current crime trends. That information helps me understand what needs to be done on the community relations side to better improve the city as a whole.  I find great joy in seeing the "Fueling Station" that I created at the YMCA and hearing the stories of how many people it has effected, really encourages me to continue the work that I am doing.

What motivated you to become an ambassador for our organization?

Being in community relations, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to work with not my Clinton, but Laurens as well and help continue to grow the great relationship that we have with Laurens City and Laurens County

What makes Laurens County special to you?

Laurens County is an amazing place to be, an amazing place to live and I really enjoy telling people to come visit this community.  Clinton is home to me, but I have lived from Joanna to Waterloo growing up and being able to now work with the people from the different communities that I have lived in, is pretty awesome.

If you could have any fictional character as your best friend, who would it be and why?

I would want to be best friends with Hammy from "Over the Hedge".  Hammy is this crazy unhinged focused but not focused at the same time, squirrel. However, he still seems to get the job done.  He does these crazy tasks within the movie even when he doesn't understand what is going on and I really think that is how I live my life most days.  So to have someone who is just as outside of the box and up for a constant new adventure every day, would make for my perfect best friend.
